Thing’s taller than I am. 105 gallons. Dream tank of a lifetime—but boy! has it been a bear to get set up! I think we are finally where we should have been last year at this time!
The tank, somewhat later…

Nice. You got the wide screen cat TV.
Lol: we also have it in the other corner: the freshwater tank: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f269/Sk8r10/new-fw-tank-04.jpg
Isn’t this where the other marine tank was before? I seem to recall piping coming up from the basement to the back of this location….
I’d be curious to see what changes you’ve made to the system since I saw it last.
yes, it’s where the old 54 gallon sat. Only taller. And wider. 😉 It’s pretty barren by comparison: it’s only starting its growth phase.
How soon can you introduce things to the water?
On a distantly related note to your use of the pickling lime, my hot tub sometimes requires me to add a chemical to raise the pH, as I have acid skin. The price at the pool store is about $6.99 for a 2 pound bottle. When I looked at the active ingredients, there’s only one….sodium bicarbonate. So, because it’s a fancy bottle, it’s at a specialty store, they charge about 5 times what a 1 pound box of the same stuff costs at Wal-Mart…….well, some of the chemicals are specialized, like the enzymes and brighteners, but I decided I didn’t need to keep buying overpriced baking soda from the pool store….
It’s gorgeous! And seriously heavy. Gallon of water is 8 pounds so not something to put in your average doublewide unless you’re on a slab. Although definitely would entertain the cats.
Things have BEEN introduced since day 1, because I had no other tank into which to put them. I delivered a lot of livestock to the fish store, to find new homes. We lost a couple of corals, traded others off. The hammer and acan are still going, and I may buy a branching hammer back to fill space. But never underestimate the power of a hammer coral to multiply. And I’ve got 3 heads of it, which is what I started with in the first place. The acan is kind of wonky, but it’s survived.
I need to get some current pix. We have a number of fish enjoying the place.
Yep…re the sodium bicarb. Read to find out if there are buffers to consider. But if pure, no reason not to use bulk. Some people supplement magnesium to their marine tanks via driveway ice melter. I don’t use quite that much magnesium!
no buffers in the sodium bicarb….the ingredients on the “Spa Up” bottle list only sodium bicarbonate 100%. The same with the baking soda from Wal-Mart….sodium bicarbonate 100%. Now, I can buy a buffering chemical once I get the pH to where I want it. I just haven’t spent the money to do so, since it’s not cheap.
