Congratulations! We look forward to reading it.
Way to go!
Yay!! So any hints to keep us going until it gets spit out by the publishers? 🙂
This is most excellent news! Seems like this one went quite a bit faster than the prior one…
Actually much longer…this is the one I ‘finished’ writing in July, but had to get re-finished before sending it in. The one I’ve *just* started—I’m barely into outline. This was in some ways one of the hardest to assemble because there were so many difficult problems.
Yaaaaaaaaaaay!
Is it April yet? 🙂
That’s great news!
…Eyes stack of books to read, including most of the Foreigner series…
Something clicked last week, and I’ve been reading more. I finished reading a couple of books and am closing in on two others. Understand, this is not like my old reading habits, but it’s, at long last, more like “me,” and I’m hoping this time, the habit will return to my former frequency. Now if I can get this to include the non-fiction, techie how-to manuals I need to read, and increase the number of fiction books (chiefly SF&F, some in other genres) I will be thrilled.
We’re glad we’re not the only ones who have most of the ‘Foreigner’ series yet to read . . .
And we have stacks and STACKS of other books as well, and the mountain grows nearly by the day.
WOOT!
Just refinished Chanur. Uhmmm… pro’ly an over-asked question; do you hear the non-human words in your head, as one hears the words when one reads?
Yes. 😉 And actually nobody’s ever asked that.
What books do you recommend for help in creating alien languages?
The “Language Construction Kit” is for creating human-style languages and so not quite what you asked for, but I use it as a reference when I teach Linguistics: http://www.zompist.com/kit.html
The author, Mark Rosenfelder, also references his books on how to create languages, right up at the top of the site. He thoroughly understands the nature of languages and so is not just providing the steps for Indo-European syntax or pronunciation systems. I find it a real fascinating read. I’ve often wanted to give my students an assignment of designing their own languages, which would absolutely test if they understand multiple course concepts, but it really is far too huge and lengthy a process (and probably beyond most of my students’ interests, time and therefore abilities) to reasonably do.
Raesean, thank you for that link!
Very welcome you are!
Thank you for that; we’ll look into it further. You’re right, it likely is beyond the interests and time of your students to design their own languages — but it would be interesting to see what they all came up with.
Yay!! Eagerly waiting!
Noooo! I’m two books behind. Need more time.
I am in awe. How many do you write in a year? You’re truly amazing ;D
