This is Miscon, a convention we very much love and look forward to. But unhappily, Jane’s back went out. She’s limping about in pain, the con starts tomorrow, and we just gave up our hotel room (beautiful hotel, with a creek just outside the windows) —because the thought of a 4 hour drive tomorrow plus all the walking and standing just wasn’t going to cut it. And if I went, I’d spend all my time missing Jane. So heck, it’s just not our year to do this. I released our lovely hotel room, which we spoke for a year ago, so somebody late will get a really nice room.
Sigh. I think the drive actually do will not be the several hours to Missoula, but an hour down to Pullman to the chiropractor to get this fixed, tomorrow if she is still in this much pain. Right now she cannot even take a step easily.
I’m so sorry — get better soon, Jane! I strained my back last year playing with the cousins, and it felt like every few minutes someone took my spine between my shoulder blades and gave it a good hard twist. I had to make an emergency expotition to the urgent care clinic and get some good drugs. It still took over a week before it felt less twingy and I suspect that was back pain lite, so Jane has my full sympathy.
We’re so sorry Jane is not up to Miscon. Hope the chiro in Pullman can give her some relief, and the huckleberry milkshakes relieve the pain.
I forgot that’s where the exceptional huckleberry milkshakes are. Yep, use those babies to wash down the Advil or whatever the doc says you should use.
Oof, feel better, Jane! The one time my back went out was when I discovered how impossible it is to do anything without moving it. Sympathies and get well wishes!
Belated Happy Anniversary to you both, and Many, Many Happy Returns of the Day. So sorry to hear Jane is down with back pain. Bless her heart!
I was kinda achy in the region of the lower back myself, for which, CJ, you are indirectly to blame. I’m rereading the Foreigner books from the beginning, and I did too much reading in bed, which is a no-no. (Started Thursday evening with book 1. I’m at book 6 now.) I’m in retreat from the reality that my little grey kitty girl crossed the Rainbow Bridge the 13th and I’m down to one kitty now, an entirely too fat black boy who always wanted to be an only cat until now that he is one and has found out how lonely it can be. This is the first time I’ve ever had just one cat.
Hope Jane can get her back sorted out. Back pain really gets you where you live — as the expression goes.
Oh, WOL, somewhere there will be a kitty waiting to help out your black one. They find their way to you.
Aleve and rest are helping. We are not letting Jane work on pond pumps or lift anything heavier than a glass today and for several days if I have my way.
did you drive to Pullman and get her “readjusted”?
Those huckleberry milkshakes sound like a good cure for something!
I hope Jane feels much better soon. Bless y’all.
They are, Ben, they truly are!
Good wishes to Jane!
I take aspirin for pain. My doc likes my blood thin. So much so that when I had a very cringe-worthy and painful accident which included a spreading puddle of blood, his only comment was, “Good. The aspirin is working.”
In any case, while the aspirin helps, I’ve recently become convinced drinking tea helps more. I’ve tried just taking aspirin and just drinking water, thinking the issue was hydration; but tea seems to reduce pain significantly, alone or with aspirin.
I’ve always had a cup of tea with my painkiller of choice. It was/is a general cure-all for what ails me.
I hope for a speedy recovery, a comfortable drive to Pullman, and a next Miscon that makes up for this one.
Saw the surgeon again this morning for my 6 weeks followup. They’ve taken away the splint and given me a temporary brace for the thumb. I’m not supposed to wear it all the time, only if I’m going to be doing something that will put stress on the thumb. I also have a big ball of therapy putty that I’m supposed to squeeze with that thumb 20 times per session, and 2 sessions per day. Then, roll it into a “snake”, and depending on how thick it is, pick an end, and start pinching it between my thumb and the index and middle fingers, again 20 times, and twice per day.
They checked my grip strength. One guy’s beside me was something like 106, my best was 71…..that was on my right hand. My left hand was something like 16….well, it’s not supposed to be that strong yet. That’s what the therapy is for.
I’m cleared to go into the pool, I can also go back to doing kendo, unopposed, so I can do the swings with both shinai and bokuto, but NO sparring. We’ll see after July when I see him again.
When I broke my wrist, I ended up using the hand on the broken side to hold potatoes while I peeled them. Couldn’t hurt!
surgery was on the left hand, and I’m left-handed……so my last 6 weeks has been an adjustment.
