Decided to apply some exercise for our general good as well as letting us eat a little more freely.
Yesterday we hiked 3/4 mile to a local eatery for lunch, had lunch, walked back.
Today we drove the car over to a fair-sized park, hiked the circumference of same, had lunch at an adjacent cafe, maybe half a mile, then drove home.
Tomorrow we do the 3/4 mile out, 3/4 back.
The good news is, we could do it. And instead of being stove-in and gimpy, we felt like doing another round today. Split a sandwich.
It’s not a bad thing to get out and walk, even up and down one’s own block. Chance to notice the flowers, see how the trees are growing, figure out what that city truck was doing at the storm drain, etc. Even meet new neighbors.
Mostly, it’s a case of more energy.
You and me both. Ugh!
I agree 100%! I wish my sore heel (fasciitis plantaris) would clear up, so I could go back to walking to work. I was slowly losing weight, and noticeably gaining energy all last year with the walking. Not being able to walk more than about 3000 steps a day since January without irritating my foot has set me back almost all I’d gained 🙁
Now that the weather is cooler I feel like walking outdoors again. Me, Eri-Guy and 2 squirrel-focused dogs do a mile or two before it gets too dark. What we’re noticing more of, though, is the lack of care some properties get, or items in front yards that do not belong there. A few more years until retirement, then we’re outta here.
This past week, one morning, a squirrel got highly upset and scolded me and/or the cats for quite some time, from the neighbor’s tree, as I sat quite politely in my own back yard on my patio. After some minutes being regaled by said squirrel in the ‘hood, I informed him/her that really, I wasn’t bothering him/her any, so why fuss at me in my own yard? The squirrel took no regard for this and continued scolding me and mine for some minutes, until finally getting tired of it. Heheh. I’d assume the squirrel was upset about both myself and the cats in my yard, and possibly, the squirrel might have babies and a new nest. One does not know. One does, however, not mind the squirrel and family, so long as they keep out of my attic.
Weight, diet, and exercise? Oops, that’s in my post in the prior thread.
Bad assumption, BCS. Having babies just before winter? Just before plants go dormant, even if “nut” trees have ripened and dropped? Not the best strategy. What you’re seeing is young males staking out breeding territories they’ll use in spring. Turnover is high.
It was just a thought. I don’t know if squirrels here would have babies in late summer or early fall, but our winters are mild enough, they *might*, if they ever do, especially after another such hot summer and still hot leading into fall/winter.
If it’s young males staking out territory, rather than a male or female defending their home/nest or little ones, then, hmm, he must be one lonely guy. Haven’t heard as much squirrel activity lately as usual. Not sure why. But the critters do scamper back and forth, trees and roofs, all year round.
Likely he or she was guarding his/her home/nest, unhappy to see the cats and me anywhere near his/her territory.
On the other hand, if I was spoiling his establishment of the new household and acreage…. Or certainly if I was interfering with his hot date, hahahah….
Anyway, he (or she) was *not* happy with me, and said so, loudly, for quite a while. 😀 … I’ve probably been called worse!
Sadly, I’ve let the exercise program slip while it’s been so hot — still over 80* even around 10:00 p.m. If I wanted to mow the lawn or start a majorly physical project, it had to be before 9 a.m. or I would melt. It’s finally starting to cool off some at night; I can maybe leave the windows open rather than running the a/c.
One of my better decisions a few years ago was to invest in a cross trainer (aka elliptical trainer) with a screen that allows me to watch the countryside go by. It gives a little visual relief while working out and can be used whatever the weather. Less than two hours a week (three sessions) excluding post exercise showers (too much information? lol) makes a real difference and, of course, it’s kind on the knees! Build up slowly and keep a close rate on the pulse rate. Seeking medical advice before purchase might be prudent if you have any doubts.
