It is in New York. I do not even want to tell you all that happened trying to get this file to New York, usually a matter of seconds. But it is done, it is in! And we did it! With Jane’s suggestions, input, spellchecking, grammar-checking, reading, critiquing, agreeing and disagreeing and providing some brilliant what-ifs and brilliant suggestions on scenes—it is done. A whole book. 1/4 of the usual alloted time.
I have no brain now. Jane is going to transport me to the pub and we are going to have a late lunch or early dinner, and I am going to fall on my face.
Preferably on something soft…
The last push for a major project always makes you feel like you’ve been drug through a knothole backwards. There is also always the fervent swearing of “Never again!!” Now you can be boneless for a little while, until the next big thing spins up. Well done, indeed.
Hurray! Enjoy some free time!
We recommend cat therapy, as cats are experts at relaxing and at carousing.
Smokey wants a chin rub, or any attention to him instead of the computer. 😀
The weather turned cooler and rainier, I now have a new bedspread on my bed, and the summer-long grudge match between Smokey and Goober is now over. They’ve declared peace in our time, and so the past few nights, I have once again had both cats happily ensconced with me on the bed. All’s right with the world once again. — Seriously, having the two of them outdo each other from the bed was a big deal for me also, very disconcerting. But they’re happy with each other, sharing the bed (and me) again, and so this is a fine thing.
Have a great time out!
I tried online gaming this evening. But I am far too wiped out. TOtally gone. Even shooting the undead has no allure.
Doing something huge in 1/4 of the usual time can become a dangerous precedent. Suffer loudly and at length for awhile so publisher people don’t get any smart ideas. Anyhow, much congratulations.
*Riotous applause, jubulant cheering, and much horn hooting*
the pub sounds like a great idea, and then maybe a couple of fingers of single-malt when you get home…..now, take a couple of days off, please, relax, then worry about catching up with housework, pond work, etc……
I’ll pub here on your behalf! So very uber cool of coolnessess… good thing there are no Gates here or I’d be so tempted to go forward and read it already.
Ok, so, I’ll ask the question! Does this early deadline (before the previous book is even published, isn’t it?) mean we get to see it sometime next year?
WEEEEEEEEEEE
um, I believe Convergence is due to come out April 2017…..this new early deadline was a one-time affair (we hope) and caught everyone off guard, including Betsy, if I recall the conversation at ShejiCon V about this…..
If at all possible, don’t let your publisher get into the habit of pushing you to finish books on such an accelerated schedule. That way lies madness, and we can wait.
We can wait, but can CJ’s bank account?
Rest, relax, watch some good anime.
Looking forward to reading it.
Congratulations! Now for some R & R for the both of you.
Might I recommend sleep? Or, a nice, ambling walk in a place you enjoy, followed by… sleep?
Congrats to the two of you on finishing the novel. Relax and enjoy yourselves!
Congratulations on getting the novel turned in. Maybe you two should take a day trip/weekend somewhere pleasant!
Woohoo! Partay! 😀
Congratulations! Just in time for NaNoWriMo. Kidding….
Seriously, you seemed to hit new levels of productivity, I presume because of lack of interruptions and keeping the full state-of-the-novel in mind all the time. How do you feel about working this way? Of course, you don’t need the pressure, but I would expect working in concentrated periods gives you more free time between the periods.
You’ve mentioned fellow DAW author Jennifer Roberson. She’s been writing a lot recently, including a couple books, one published, in her Del&Tiger series, which had a solid ending already. Seems like DAW is open to adding more volumes to old series. Any interest in revisiting old settings on your part?
I can’t not-write. I’m doing a short bit for Gardner Dozois’ upcoming fantasy collection next, will get on that in the next couple of days, and another DAW project is also in the works.
Ooh! Ooh!
(I can’t remember seeing that sound spelled out except in closed captions and recently. Was it spelled some other non-intuitive way, like “ptui”?)
I always love short story anthologies, and have enjoyed Gardner Dozois as editor and author before. Please let us know when it’s due out. I’m sure fans will want to check it out.
Del and Tiger? The tag alone sounds intriguing somehow.
Heck, I’d love more Alliance-Union or Chanur or, or…. Or something brand new, if you like. Just saying, at risk of repeating myself.
I’d recommend a walk in nature. The woods or anywhere with growing things. Or possibly a trip to the zoo, as off-season as that may be.
I agree with others. An overly rushed deadline is a bad precedent, both for an author and for the publisher. It risks a rush job that’s not as high quality, and it risks burnout. Not so OK for short-term, really not OK long-term or repeatedly. However, yeah, tough to argue with a quicker influx of income.
Best wishes, and please get some rest! 😀
Del & Tiger is the series that begins with Sword Dancer.
Congrats on the finished piece. Looking forward to the next ones.
May I mention Seeking North? So, so curious as to what Jess and Koji did next.
YES! thank you!
