every tree is white, down to the smallest twigs, not with ice, but with snow. The PNW does (unlike Oklahoma) have many very still days, and this is one. Snow is still coming down and it coats even tiny twigs.
Got the finally checkup for the eye tomorrow…and I’ll continue the eye drops until 5 days past surgery on the next on the 6th Jan, which will put me into another month of eye drops. I swear, 4 rounds of 3 drops a day—thank goodness I have a chart!
How many different drops do they have you taking? I recall I had to take prednisone drops as well as antibiotic drops (IIRC), and the prescription called for me to reduce the number of drops by one application each day after a certain point, so as to “wean” me off the prednisone.
Glad it’s going well for you. Here’s hoping the other eye does well too.
Some snow here on Christmas morning was predicted the other day by WeatherUndergound, but that’s gone away now. The neighborhood weather station says we’ve got 17.25″ of rain in the last month, 11/21-12/21. Gonna be another ’96. I expect we’re already an inch today–I see standing water here and there on my lawn.
“In for a penny, in for a pound,” eh? I trust it will go very well. This interim where one eye is 20/20 and the other ain’t must be very wierd.
It must be nice to be able to see details like the snow on the tiny twigs without glasses after the surgery. I had to do some last minute sewing, and my eyes have gotten to the point where detail work is problematic; I can still read fine, but threading needles? Bah! On the plus side, I am on a new inhalant prescription for my allergies, and it has made a world of difference. No more waking up in the middle of the night sneezing and unable to breathe through my nose.
I’ve got one anaesthetic, one antibiotic, and one steroid. Today, one week on, I stop the antibiotic and start backing down off the other doses, which will be 3 drops a day, then two, then one, overlapping the time at which I start the full 4 a day of 3 for the OTHER eye. Since your eyes are sort of individual and each its own capsule, one dose really shouldn’t impact the other.
Here in the Flatlands of TX, out in the rectangular bits, our predicted high for Christmas day is 69F, with a low of 46F, and light breezes of 20 mph or thereabouts, and neither snow nor sleet, nor rain nor precip of any kind predicted, but 63% humidity, which will be a break from the less than 45%, somebody should figure out a way to use all that stupid static electricity to charge a battery to run something, humidity we’ve been having. . . . . We don’t even do “shortest day of the year” real good here — less than 5 hours’ difference between the length of the day between June 21 and December 21 at our latitude.
Sounds like you have a medical three ring circus with all your drops, CJ. I’ll bet they have a smart phone app for that . . . I’d need one to keep it all sorted. Glad healing is progressing nicely. Hang in there. It’ll be over soon and you’ll be able to see your way clear to do all sorts of things.
Sounds not bad. Here in L.A., the high was maybe 60 before the weather arrived – it’s been raining-not-hard for a couple of hours. No wind to speak of, and the humididity in my place is at 31%. (The low this time of year can get into single digits. Don’t touch metal, unless it’s with the side of your arm.)
The big amusement is watching the newspapers and the politicians havign cows because the big gas storage field up on the mountain has a leaking well, which is a pain to shut off. They’re drilling relief wells, but the bottom of the leaker is 8000 feet down, and they have about 4000 feet to go. (Reading the headlines, you’d think we should all have died at least twice. Also keep in mind that the people making the most noise are the same ones who encouraged home construction right up to the fence around the storage field.)
Well, our winter weather is chewing on the highway. 101 south is (at my guess) going to be closed before the end of the week due to a sink hole…. Its currently down to one lane because the hole is under the breakdown lane…
Old fill and even older culverts with a really wet spell are a curse around here!
You must be enjoying being able to see clearly. At some point I am going to have to go through this; you are most encouraging about the whole process.
A chart is a great idea. I had enough trouble taking antibiotics timed so they didn’t interfere with allergy and vitamins.
Are you expecting a white Christmas? Heavy rain today, in the sixties for Christmas. Go figure!
Glad you are making progress. Rained all day up here in New Hampshire.
Have a happy holiday season all.
Falcon 9 did it this time! 😮
We all remember when the Rau clan’s “lighter” dropped Pyanfar and the crew down right on the Chanur Estate land from Gaohn in a tail-first landing. It’s been done. Life imitating art.
I’ve wondered what happens to Rau clan after that, from Chanur gratitude. Also what happened to Handur clan after the loss of their ship at, I think it was, Meetpoint. Then there’s Meras clan. Did na Hallan have their blessing and help to get into spacing? He’s determined to make it, but also to be mild-mannered and thinking, instead of the hani perception of male aggression and high-strung emotional outbursts.
Ah, the jokes that must be going ’round about Chanur clan’s wild goings-on with males on ships, floating harems and love-nests….
Ah, how that’s going to affect other ships that try it, or those that are set against it. (Unless they’re practical enough to see ker Pyanfar’s “all your eggs in one basket” argument, which should seem persuasive.)
Oh, the problems of having hani children and adolescents aboard ship.
Then there are all those clever mahe. What are they up to? (I wonder, by the way, how an author would handle the challenge of a mahen POV, given the trade pidgin versus the native languages.)
Then there are those troublesome humans, as vexing as the kif or the methaners in their alien ways. What happens if some humans get ideas, notions?
Or what if there’s again some random or outside event?
Not that, you know, I’d be wondering about such things…. 😉
Did na Hallan have [Meras’] blessing and help to get into spacing?
His sisters’ help IIRC.
For threads to hang more stories on: the stars beyond Minar, found by Chur; the t’ca, who Pyanfar can apparently talk to; and all those t’ca eggs…. But I like BCS’ idea of a look at clans in space society.
I’d like to read more Compact Space. Considering Roberson’s sequels, DAW seems to like adding on to successful series. And it would be good for DAW to rearrange how they publish Chanur; the third volume of the trilogy was out of print for quite a while. Maybe a pre-prequel of Hani-Mahendo’sat first contact to put with Pride, and another post trilogy book to go with Legacy?
Oh, I’ve got ideas about all that stuff! Sure do, I does. But apparently nobody wants to know. 😉
There really is a quite logical development of what Hilfy does after delivering “the Preciousness” and that old conniver No’shto-shti-stelen becomes a holiness. I dare say, what she has to do.
Lovely and intriguing ideas, but somehow I doubt our fearless leader is in any need of more stuff to do. Remember that any distraction is likely to slow down appearance of more info on the atevi.
