The issue was not that a cheaply-made cord delivered more power than the spec said, but that a badly-designed cord swapped two wires within the cable, reversing (IIRC) power and ground. That sort of incompetence could also have happened with USB A/B cables (the sort we’ve been using up until now).
Interesting. We have so much manufacturing coming from very small companies in various corners of the world, who themselves may farm out certain things, for all we know. The wonder is that electronics work as well as they do, as cheaply as they do it, but where it comes to my computer, knowing that I game, and use wireless headset and mouse, all those little stubbies and batteries of various types (just found out the Logitech one that says you can’t replace its batteries can replace the battery if you order it from China…and the thing is the size of a postage stamp…) anyway, one just hopes not to have the thing burst into flame someday…
I have become very fond of Carbonite.
