Please don’t forget the second step. Write to me: addy is on this page, and a ‘real’ [not bot] person can find it. I’ll be delighted to hear from you, will answer you personally, and I only ‘deny’ a membership that has sat there a number of hours with no letter yet. If you HAVE been denied, write anyway—I can still catch your membership and approve it.
If you want to join—2 steps. Join, then write!

In the mysterious way of the internet I’m probably going to have to lengthen the time in the application queue. It’s taking a while for letters to get back and forth.
Just thought I’d say I like the look. Nice an clean, but still discoverable. Good luck wrangling the remaining gremlins. 🙂
Hi, CJ. Mostly a test post, but: What a shame about the koi, I was sorry to see that. I like the new look, can’t wait for the new book to arrive.
Here’s an odd but minor thing; when I changed my Gravatar image it came up correctly everywhere but here. Now I have a funky little guy. I have to admit I’ve sort of missed these.
Hmmm. My Gravitar image appears correct in the WordPress header. Will leave a comment to see if it shows correctly on the side…
ETA: And yes, it does.
Good to see you all showing up—whatever your form!
One thing I have noticed is the apparent absence of direct links to previous/next posts from the one you are reading. Yes, there is the calendar, so you can go to a particular day’s posts, but I certainly found the previous/next posts links useful!
I’d suggest a day or two for people to reply back via emails. Some will surely want to reply as soon as they join, but others may not get the hang of things or might have a delay in getting email to/from.
I’m mostly liking the new look. I see you all are adjusting it as you go. Post and replies seemed light/faint/thin the other day, but may be better now. I’ll know after a few more visits.

New apartment! Huzzah! — My internet connection was down for nearly a month, nd in the interim, I’ve begun the move-in to a new apartment. The two cats are adjusting in typical cat fashion. After a week, they’ve about decided some noises are routine if I’m there with them, while others still require a quick hidey-hole. Mr. Non-Assertive and Mr. Extra-Assertive have flipped roles for this: The non-assertive one has a brave streak (and a laissez-faire streak) after all, and the assertive one has been hiding more. Today, after a few hours away to the storage space, I got an effusive, ebullient (for cats) welcome back. “You came back! We missed you! Hurray! Ooh, that smells like our stuff!)
Closing on my former home is still to come, mid-month or end-of. Apartment living is brand new to me. I am mostly liking the new place, and adjusting. (Man, I’m going to have to reduce down even more than I’d thought!)
Many of my new neighbors speak Spanish at home primarily, or equal parts Spanish and English. I am therefore going to get lots of immersion practice and dust off my rusty Spanish. but this is needed anyway, as it’s common city-wide these days. Fine by me. I’m a friendly Anglo who loves languages. — Must get my language books out of storage quickly, though, to review and build vocabulary and any weak grammar points. (My grammar is better than I thought, but my vocabulary and listening/speaking skills need work. Rapid-fire and some accents give me trouble, where some do not.) — Have only met one neighbor family halfway yet: we said hello to each other, no introductions yet. — But this s part of the fun of the new place.
(A few of my Cherryh books are now here, with more to come. Other books and a few videos will be here, and I’ll be going through various things to see what to keep. Winnowing down everything.)
Most of my furniture is due Friday, best plan. Should be far more livable then.
Congratulations on your successful move, BCS! I didn’t twig to the fact you were absent so long because you were in the throes of packing and sorting, nor to the move itself being imminent. And skritches to the cats.
BCS, glad to hear that your move is proceeding (somewhat) smoothly. Give your kittehs ear skritches for me. Our long time kitteh visitor, who moved to VA with our daughter, died last month. ReadyGuy is especially heartbroken and we are discussing getting a new kitten to fill the void. It really makes you appreciate kitteh discussions here and on FB.
I like the new look. It’s been a while since I commented here, and my login still works!
BCS, good to know the move went well. Thanks for updating us. I’d noticed you were especially “off line” even more than me (or others).
Thanks, folks. It’s good to be back. 🙂 Delayed birthday present: Tomorrow, I’m supposed to get some / most of my furniture moved in. There will be some sort of celebration tomorrow night if I am not too tired to cheer.
@ready4more — So sorry to hear about your kitty. The last time, I waited some months before getting Goober (The Least Assertive Cat in the Universe). It was, however, worth the wait, I needed the time after my previous cat, and I think he and Goober would have been good friends if they’d known each other. — Goober is now 10 1/2 or so and Smokey is now 7 and a few months. Pets add something special and “alien” to our lives. (Goober was considering something yesterday most serious, working out something about the new place. It’s fascinating to see how they think.)
CommentThanks for all the hard work CJ.
I’m very much a lurker but read the blog most days.
Probably only postes three or four times in all.
I hope things will work out much better for you now.
