And came in sweaty, overheated, and worn out.
The messy trellis by the lotus pond had to go. The espaliered apple had broken out in vertical shoots, and I trimmed those and took down the clematis vines that will now have to grow up the trellis we’re installing.
The new tree is getting a bed of heather out front—Jane did that.
And I’m hoping for fishes soon. The water that has been clear is getting murky with algae as the weather warms, but it’s all too fine to catch in the filters. I’ve run the filter since we refilled and never had to wash it once, but I think we are approaching filter-washing time. I don’t do it until the filter starts spitting water, because there is a level of dirt that actually helps trap fine particles, and I really hope I can get by without algicide this year.
How far do you cut back the clematis?
We had to cut back all the way to shin-high. It was needing a little restart. Now it can retry.
Off-Topic: I’m scheduled for a tooth extraction in a couple of hours. Somehow, this seems to miss the point of Cinco de Mayo! ๐ Soft foods this weekend, oh boy. A new blender is due to arrive today, and I have to go by the store to get gauze (in case) and any prescription. About to have breakfast, which, yes, the dentist recommended.
Well, you can always have a burrito, filling only, sans the tortilla itself. Maybe go light on the hot sauce. Owie-owie-owie!
Completely OT, has anyone heard how Patty Briggs is doing since Mike passed? Her website forum has a small amount of chatter among forumites, but no real updates since January. One hopes all is well (or as well as can be expected).
Our weekly gathering had to be canned; DH came down with a cold (after insisting for 3 days it was just a reaction to the neighbor’s BBQ) and the house is now under plague quarantine. So far, any symptoms I have are minimal and indistinguishable from my regular allergies, but I might be contagious anyhow. Sneezing on one’s guests is rude.
I’ve been wondering that myself. As far as I can tell from peripheral evidence (Facebook) she’s on tour for the new book, including the long-awaited trip to Australia.
We’re trying to get together. Will, pretty soon.
Please let Patty know fans are thinking of her. ๐ We know it’s very tough and wish her all the best.
I’m finally back from getting the tooth pulled and the pharmacy / grocery store trip. Good thing, as he wants me on soft foods for at least 5 days. Hot soup, tea, anything are no-no’s for the first day or two, then OK on soft foods, and on the 6th day, I start saline irrigation / rinse localized, then full mouth. Pain meds mean I will be very woozy (high or drunk from the meds) for a couple of days, so I’ll be checking in with local friends to let them know if I’m OK or not. ๐ This is a good thing.
Extra sleep and rest the whole weekend. — I will be curling up with the cats and a backlog of Cherryh and other books and some nonfic if my brain can handle it. Spanish review should be OK; techie review will depend on how sharp the ol; noggin is. — Looking forward to reading.
LOL, I thought about getting tamales, but decided to hold off until next week. By the time I’m ready for real food again, BBQ sounds fantastic. (A BBQ shop near the dentist smelled great even after the tooth was out.) Burritos, wow, I may ask a friend’s mom if she’d fix some once I’m ready for solid food again. But hey, omelets are likely OK, sans solid fillings.
I’m crawling into bed before the meds hit, haha. Convergence, Finity’s End (still), the Collapsing Empire (Scalzi) are the three current books, then on to one of Jane’s, and Tripoint, and hmm, I had been ready (I think) or the 2nd in Lynn Abbey’s Out of time series. we’ll see how fast I can get through things, but at top speed, Pride of Chanur or Downbelow Station took a full weekend, many moons ago, so I have about a week’s worth of books ready to go; maybe two. ๐
(Note: Collapsing Empire will be the 2nd of John Scalzi’s books I’ve read. Still a new author to me. Much catching up to do!)
The cats get a cozy hewn and I get nice foot warmers, hahah.
Oh, joy! (What I have to look forward to when I get #18 out later this month! ๐ )
I’ve had a nap, had pudding twice, and will be very glad for something with a little more oomph tomorrow. Doing fine so far, no problems from the tooth; for which I’m grateful.
Hah, @Paul, the tooth that was pulled was #18 here also. I hope your procedure goes as well as mine has! Best Wishes.
I’m not as woozy or wacky from the meds as I’d thought, nor quite as sleepy. This is good news; I can do a little more, but still need to watch it, as my judgment / perception must be more off than I think.
Reading, videos, and some computer time this weekend. Maybe studying and font work.
Oh, and the blender I ordered arrived fine. Happy there.
Try not to operate heavy machinery, BCS; making a jump is right out ๐
Hope your recovery is speedy and without a hitch, BCS!
Hi, all! I’m doing pretty well, but really looking forward to solid foods. Two to three more days to go. (I’ve been naughty and had some chicken salad and potato salad. This helped.)
Nervous about disturbing the healing tooth spot, but it seems to be doing OK.
I have been going longer without pain meds today; did have one bout where the med made me too loopy, but I’ve been sleeping extra this weekend.
Hah, no, no jump calculations or piloting. No can-hauling and loading/off-loading for me now either! I mean, I really wouldn’t want to be the one cleaning thawed seafood surprise and sauce out of the hold or the dockside! ๐
Recovery is going better than I thought. I’m so relieved.
I got a 2nd opinion on the oral surgery upcoming. The dentist gave some good advice: The oral surgeon I’m seeing is also an M.D. Therefore, it’s possible when I get the teeth removed, some of the cost could be defrayed as a required medical health insurance expense, and some as a dental expense. In general, his recommendation matched the other dentist and oral surgeon. He said my case is borderline, in that some teeth could be saved, but others need to be removed, so whether I go with full “teeth in a day,” or only do some teeth, is a judgment call for me or for the dentist. But there’s so much involved that might last 5, 7, 10, or 0 years, that the decision boils down to saving cost and how much might last more than 5 to 10 years versus 20, say.
I had a good impression of this dentist and appreciated his honesty. Even though he basically talked himself out of a job, it told me I’m on the right basic course, and I’ll be sure to keep him in mind in the future.
Glad to hear you’re recovering well, and seem to be getting a handle on the medical/dental troubles.
I hope your assessment for the disability and medical insurance stuff gets done soon, so you can get started on the longer-term planning for the less urgent treatments.
