We went back to the store and bought a 6″er. You could almost hear little fishie voices exclaiming “Nee-san!” in great relief. Now we have five little noses lined up under the pump shelter. But big brother comes out to eat, and the little ones are coming out too. We have a lot of traffic just outside the back yard, and it has to be strange to these fish. They’re getting bolder. Maddy made it clear to the bridge, a whole 5 feet away from the hidey-hole.
We also completed the netting—we had half of it up, on the more vulnerable side. So now the fishes are protected. The pond looks as if it’s the den of Shelob, in certain sun angles, but Mr. Raccoon does not get sushi.
The new guy’s named—we absolutely couldn’t think of an appropriate name for him—Goku. The always-starving monkey-boy whose name means something like Bottomless Pit—who grows up into the Seiten Taisei, the Great Sage Equal of Heaven….This from one of our favorite animes/mangas, Saiyuki. Our Goku is the most unusual color I’ve ever seen in a koi, the color of a new-minted penny. With a bandit mask of black dots. There’s no knowing how he’ll grow up or out, but right now he’s just unusual. A doitsu type, with big heavy scales on either side of the spine. Getting a picture isn’t easy: the water he came in was absolutely clouded with pollen. (It’s that season up here.) But we’ll get a good one sooner or later. Meet Goku.
My first thought might be correct, if ‘Goku’ is protecting the littler fishes. I was thinking of the Super Saiyan from Dragonball Z, protector of the Earth.
Goku is indeed the same monkey-boy: Sun Wukong, and very much the same in Saiyuki and Dragonball Z, also appearing in Naruto, and of course in Journey to the West.
Do I see lipstick markings?
It’s good that they’re cautious. It shows they have good instincts. Now they have a big brother to look out for them. I hope Goku-san likes his new home. Long may they wave!
This reminds me to check out Saiyuki again.
If you use “OneLogin” password manager–it got hacked! Your passwords are no longer secure!
This is why I never use online password managers. You just can’t tell how good (or bad) their security systems are, under the hood.
This is supposed to be a large, professional company that provides password services mainly to commercial clients. You’d think it would be absolutely fundamental that all the data in their databases would be kept only in encrypted form, and that only users would hold the keys to their own data. But apparently not. They announced, “customer data was compromised, including the ability to decrypt encrypted data”.
Personally, I use KeePass – which is open source, so all their security code can be checked by experts, and offline only.
That’s not the one we use. And in the way of things, the scoundrels will sell the info, probably including the priciness of transactions and with whom, indicating where the money may be.
I use LastPass, which not only hasn’t been hacked, but is really good about warning when other sources get hacked. With the HeartBleed exploit, they not only said “this password was compromised”, they also said “this site has not patched the flaw, don’t change the password YET”
This morning I saw a pair of cardinals bathing in the rain, and I had a wonder. I wonder what butterflies, with their fragile wings do in a hard rain?
go to the underside of a branch among leaves, and hang upside down so that the water runs off their folded wings. Instinct turns them caterpillar for an hour, I think, and they don’t unfold again until the sun is bright and flowers are unfolding.
Hmmm… Some hero of necessity might also do so.
It’s two/three days later and I am still sans bureau (desk) and bookcase. The courier to deliver them for Amazon can’t seem to grasp that the apt. complex offices close after 5 or 6 pm, which appears to be when they’ve tried to deliver them before, and it looks like the same today, as it’s now 4:30pm. One estimates one shall have to call Amazon’s customer support to get it straightened out – or get a refund and buy locally with friends along to do the lifting and car/van transport, which I’d thought, hey, I could avoid. So…so I am still using my triple dresser as a makeshift desk. Grumble.
I still have this cold, after a week. It’s somewhat better, but lingering. I am way past ready to be rid of it.
I am, however, mostly functional, just not a happy camper, and my right ear is still stopped up. So I’m going to do whatever else I can do today, despite feeling like I have no brain. Heh.
In a moment of weakness, I signed up through Amazon to a week’s free trial of Starz channel, so I could watch the old The Young Riders TV series from the early 90’s, which I liked. So tee-haw, y’all. 😀
Didn’t expect that! *Someone* in the apts nearby is fixing…well, whatever it is, it smells fantastic, meat and veggies, probably stew or pot roast. I still have my cold, so my sense of sell is off, but ohh, that’s smelling good. hahahah. and I don’t have any. boo 🙁 oh well.
Friends are (I hope) going to do a grocery run for me tomorrow, with a check and a big thank you from me.
The much anticipated desk and bookshelf were delivered at long last and now are awaiting assembly. — Though for dining and living room furniture, I still need to find some locally used. Prefab and assemble doesn’t suit me for that.
Hoping next week, I’ll be up to another foray to the storage space. :-/ — And I’m now a bit pat three months in my new apartment, yay!
Yay. I think the cold might be breaking up finally. Still congested, but up and around, mostly functional as long as I don’t cough or sniffle. Bleh.
Yay more — Friends went by today and got my grocery list, plus extras on a couple of items. I am now nearly oversupplied, after being nearly depleted. The one item they didn’t get was barbecue or beef to do barbecue. I will prep the hamburger with bbq sauce instead and call it a win. 😀 I’ll also need to pick up Cokes soon, as they got less than I’d listed. That’s OK too; it can wait a week or so.
Things are looking up, and I hope to make a foray to the storage space next week to tackle it; the first time in several weeks now. Really want a few things on my list to retrieve, but judging by last time, this will only happen as I run across things in storage, not in any easy, predictably planned manner. Well, it’ll be a surprise party that way, right? 😉 As long as it gets done, so I can clear more out of there and be set up here or give / sell things I no longer want / need.
