And arranging it so that you cannot become a member of this site except by writing a letter to me. My addy can be found herein. But every time I toss off five RU hucksters, I get 10 in their place. I can easily add someone, or un-add them. But I’m of a mind just to remove the signup page from view and put in an instruction to write to me, which you have to do to be here anyway.
Considering ending registration as it now exists…

On my old iPad2 – the blog theme/skin is responsive, except it won’t enlarge with the reverse-pinch gesture. That’s a problem for me, no zooming in. Though I think there is a zoom feature for iOS, will have to recheck.
My ipad2 is cranky and old; gotta get a new one or a new laptop, eventually both. Many apps are not working, no longer supported iPad, it’s too old. My recent Kindle does not want to play nice with the hotel network, so… I will be ente training myself how I can. Now that it’s daylight, maybe light enough to read a printed book, or not.
Cats and I are fine; but they have swapped who is confident and assertive and who is not. Very bizarre. Will update if anything’ exciting, later tonight or tomorrow. Cats doing well in the hotel room! Yay!
I still use an original iPad 2 also! It was a gift a few years ago – I can’t afford an updated one ๐ . It is still good for reading e-books, web surfing, etc. though a lot of modern websites are almost unreadable on it (“old-fashioned” static HTML sites – like Mrs. Cherryh’s original website elsewhere – are fine). And of course I can’t update the OS anymore (or install an adblocker as they require more recent OS versions).
Yes, exactly. Some apps partially work but leave things out. Others don’t work at all, or are stuck because they can’t update the version. Others work OK. — Oddly, funnily, the Kindle app on the iPad2 works fine, but the (almost new) Kindle tablet (from Amazon) did not want to play nice with Amazon Services and the hotel network, no matter what. So it was a doorstop the whole time. — I am going to see if I can afford / make payments on a new iPad Pro, big screen (for me, the bigger the screen the better), mid-range on features, but wifi and cellular a must. That and a keyboard and stylus (Apple’s special whiz-bang overly pricey Apple Pencil), and eek, pricey, but I will be using it regularly, especially for the next few months. Don’t know if I will be able to do it, or if I will decide to wait anyway. But bringing both and not being able to do much at all was really not good. — It would cost more than a similar laptop, probably, but I’ve gotten more use of of my current iPad2 than I ever would have thought. So I still have to weigh my options, see if I can afford it, or if I want to wait anyway.
Good evening, in my last comment I asked about the wrong title because it isn’t re-emergence but Resurgence I was thinking of. I was sort of close yet not.
So my question is when will Resurgence be out……I really love your books, all of them.
I have a rescue cat, by the way, I’ve had her a few years now but she is super jealous of other cats though, she no longer howls at them as they look through the patio door at her.
Have a great evening !
have you checked any of the online book-sellers, like the Large South American River?
@Jean – If I recall correctly, CJC had last said iResurgence is coming a year after Alliance Rising, which is due in January 2019. However,, CJC will surely want to answer when she next sees your. Comment. ๐
Quite off topic, but I just wanted to tell someone about the delightful new books & author I just discovered. They write under the ‘nom de plume’ Forthright, and there are two books out now in the Amaranthine saga: “Tsumiko and the enslaved fox”, and “Kimiko and the accidental proposal”. They have an anime flavor, but are mostly gentle and kind in tone – adventure but not thrillerlike, and suitable for YA. Both have a different Japanese YA/teen protagonist, and a complement of interesting characters like an older kitsune and a teenaged phoenix. As there are people here who like anime, I think some here might like these books as well.
was that on Lulu or Smashwords, or Kobo, or Amazon? I’ll google for it when I get home. Sure, I think a anime and manga fans would enjoy recommendations.
I’m back! Whew! — And oh, the apt. looks so, so much better. Though now, hmm, where is everything after the Great Reshuffle? Haha. (I think everything that was supposed to stay did stay.) The lady with the cleaning service did a very good job except for two minor hiccups. But that was a LOT of work to get done in one day, for herself and one or two others. So I am pleased, despite the expense plus the extra day at a hotel. Probably will have her come out after the apt. is fumigated. (Ick. We may both need hazard pay.) She was also pleased with my Spanish, which still is not up to my previous level of fluency. (More review and vocab needed, a bit more grammar review and some re-memorization.) But my listening comprehension has improved slightly, even as rapid as she and my friend were at a normal conversation rate. My speaking rate is still not fast or as confident. (I’d be better in French, but still rusty.) So improvement there, and a bonus on goodwill, friendliness.
@chondrite — Hurray! Thank you! The care package did arrive; I think while I was out. I will be opening it and sampling it tonight, likely. Still settling in here. ๐ Thank you again!
I see I want to get a very bright light to travel with for reading. I learned a couple of things I missed for the cats and myself for a regular travel kit, simple except for the light.
@CJ — I read “Mech” from the Altered States anthology and really enjoyed it. I got started on a reread of the Gates / Morgaine novels in the omnibus ebook edition, and will be reading it along with a reread of Finitiy’s End. which was interrupted by Real Life intervening. I am already reminded why I like the Morgaine / Gates books, and for me, the start in something with a flavor of Middle / Early Modern English adds to the fun. I will always love your many other story-universes, not only Foreigner, and I do wish you’d have more time to explore those other universes, whether continuing in some or with brand-new tales in-universe, or heck, brand-new story-universes. (I’m easy to please that way, haha.) — I will be glad when there’s an ebook version of Finity’s End, and a few others are still not in ebook form.
(The hotel’s idea of a desk light and a beside light were not as bright as a 60 watt incandescent plain old light bulb, and were LED and the new squiggly LED(?) lights. VERY frustrating to bring my Spanish textbook and an old pb of Finity’s Eng, and not make much use of either, due to not enough light; the pb affected more than the textbook. Thus, I’ll hunt up a bright travel light or regular lamp of some sort, possibly a small fluorescent. Gotta be something that will work. My normal desk light is a very old-fashioned two fluorescent stick desk lamp.)
The cats have both been around to touch base with me, but are still in “you stuck us in the carriers and took us in a car _again_!” mode, though slightly forgiving due to us arriving back home. Heh. And rather nonplused and perplexed over things being moved and the smell being so different, yet still home. So they’re fine. — They did much better than I expected. So they do remember (a little) having traveled back and forth so much earlier in their lives. Goober did better than Smokey, the reverse of their usual non-assertive and assertive pattern. But this tells me they could travel as needed and most of the time would be well behaved. Ah, subject to the requirements of the service; i.e., cats being cats, things happen in cat ways at cat times. (They didn’t spit up, have an accident, or yowl. I am inestimably thankful!)
I get to relax a little before getting back to clearing boxes and doing fonts and other daily routine.
Er, I sat down with my friend after the ride and talked a little more, both business and personal. I had come out to him recently, and gave a little background / life history for perspective, and hey, this went really well. (My friends are married and have kids, and I’ve met one wife and another daughter, and would like to get to know them better.) Er, nope, have not met anybody. This area of my life is still at a stand-still lately. — But if I get a roommate, and have my friends’ help in that, well, they (and any prospective roommate) need to know that I’m gay. If I ever do get a roommate, I want him / them to be comfortable with it, for my peace of mind and theirs. — As yet, no plans, but I want this option open. I’ve seen that having someone (or more than one) else around is a good thing for support and companionability. I’m enough o a loner, but still, being too alone is not a good thing. … And I am still nervous, in that I want someone special, and I don’t want my subconscious or conscious self mistaking “roommate” for “special significant other / partner,” ah, unless he likes me back. ๐ Ah, and yeah, that partner thing needs time to develop, and probably not under the same roof until being sure it’s “partners” instead of some other relationship. …Gah, what do I know? I see I still have “knight in shining armor, happily ever after” syndrome; not that that’s a bad thing or impossible, just, by now, it doth seem quite unlikely to appear.
Oh, heck, I’m glad to be back home at my apt., chez moi, with the cats and all’s well.
“Chez” — This is one of the best and most unique things about French, that the language has a specific preposition just for “at the home of, at home.” English and a few other languages in the Germanic line have a concept of “home” as distinct from “house or other dwelling,” but then French comes along with something even more specific than “mi casa es su casa.” Chez is a wonderful concept , and so is home. — It occurs to me, I’ve finally really considered this apartment as “home.” Overdue for that.
Hoping you all have a good day and night! Tonight calls for relaxing, some tea or other goodies, and a video, before curling up with a good book (from the aforementioned) and two cats.
Glad that you and the cats are back home, BCS… and that home feels clean and welcoming!
Try a craft light for reading – some of them will fold neatly. I have a couple of “Ott-Lite” lamps, which are bright enough – 13-watt fluorescents – to read by, easily. Places like Office Depot have desk lamps, where all you’d have to do is change the regular compact stick for an “ott-lite”, which are available from craft stores, frequently at a discount.
Glad things made it home in one piece, yourself and cats included! If you have to go walkabout again, one thing business travelers do is bring a comfortably bright light bulb with them to replace the dim bulbs that seem to be all the hotels are willing to put in their lamps. You can read without straining, then.
I’ve heard stuffing one’s bed pillow in a trash bag and bringing it, when one’s driving of course. There’ve been times I’d’ve agreed.
p.s. Calling for an appointment for a “L5 facet joint injection”, my 4th or 5th, but a year past since my last. That one was memorable because my sister was travelling so I couldn’t conveniently get a ride and thought I could “tough it out” without the sedative injection so drive myself. Not my best decision. Got a little “shocky” for an hour or so. Interesting experience.
Thank you all! PJ, I’ll look for those ott-lights. That would be such a boon.
Chondrite, oh, the tea is marvelous! and much appreciated. I haven’t sampled the jelly yet. I took a precaution of putting the catnip in an additional baggie, and will either use it soon or put it with the cat’s (new) travel kit for the next excursion.
The Great Reshuffle: :: falls over laughing :: — Well, so far, everything is still here, and appears to have stayed in the same room it started in, but…oh, my! — Kitchen tools and supplies and laundry stuff? These were out of the kitchen in prep for pest control … and all has been reshuffled. I did, however, find the two laundry bags to be done. — So must continue looking. Other items, I’m coming to: I find this when I was looking for that, of course. ๐ But hmm, it will force me to go through everything to relocate where things landed. So far, so good, but hmm, I’m going to need the laundry and kitchen stuff today, so it’s the priority search.
That tea is helping, and now knowing things are indeed roughly where they started and not gone or too mixed up, this also helps.
The cats are being extra clingy, uncertain as to why the back-and-forth travel and everything moved around at home and all smells funny. ๐ But they’re fine and I’m fine. Might get to put a small two-tier cart or bookshelf together today, once I find where it landed.
This is good. Things are stacked but out of the way, and there’s room again and it is, oh thank heavens, clean and neat again. Now to winnow down and keep it this way. And then, sigh, another round from storage. — No idea if the maint. guy will be here today to fix the dryer vent. Guess it’s not too much of a priority, as, hmm, I’ve gotta find the new jug of laundry soap.
Life is beginning to return to living again, but meh, will be glad when I can get back to actual work, rather than housekeeping chores. But that too must be done.
