I pulled about 10 lbs of them out of the pond filter, and spent an hour power-washing them out of the fiber filter mat. Glug! They’re all over the drive and patio, not to mention everything else. Hawthorne is one of the prettiest blooming trees, the Maxfield Parrish sort of blooms, red or white, but the dirtiest flower: sheds petals, then hulls, then fruits and sheds the berries (which are a laxative for dogs that eat them) and then the leaves. It has a gift for every season. But it’s so pretty.
Also planted a tomato outdoors in a pot, and because I happened across a nursery while buying cat food, I picked up a bell pepper, another tomato and an Anaheim pepper plant for the same pot. Combined with the lettuce garden indoors, we should have salad if these succeed.
BCS, I third the opinion that you should try for the house. I think I would also point out to the apartment management that they aren’t likely to get a lot of people moving while Houston is having such high Covid-19 cases. Do they really want to rent to people whose health they can’t guarantee? Make an arrangement to give them 45 to 60 days advance notice in exchange for you not writing a negative yelp review due to lack of maintenance. You can still complain about things such as non-delivery of packages and noisy neighbors/thin walls, but the lack of maintenance is usually a deal-breaker for most people looking to move in.
This is number four on the house side. This apartment has never made you content, let alone happy.
Hi, folks, and thank you all. I’ve been so frustrated about the house deal. Yes, we’re still in lockdown and yet reopening. My latest grocery delivery lacked several items, but I’d miscalculated, so I was still full. So I’m going to wait a bit longer nbefore the next order. I’m also going to try Amazon or other places, but unsure if they’ll have the same problems.
The house deal is on shutdown too. As I understand it, the title company and the house seller are almost or fully shutdown. So I’m eating up rent on the apt. which I’d wanted to go toward the new house.

Pual’s right about the costs of repairs and upkeep. I had that problem when I had a house before. I’d have to rely on friends’ recommendations and any help on little stuff. I don’t have any prospects for a roommate, either for the house or for the current apartment, which is a bummer, as I wish I had a friend who’d get along well enough with each other so that we’d make a good team as housemates / roommates. That would help a lot in a lot of ways.
BCS—yes, you sound both deeply frustrated and emotionally down right now over the housing situation, and very understandably. The kitten is getting some ricochet emotion from the worries over housing, I suspect. COVID and lockdown aren’t helping at all with your or anyone’s spirits right now either. I quintuple(?) (since seconding took place many comments ago) that maintaining your efforts to land the house is worth it. Breaking the lease to the apartment I’d doable if necessary and the advice given useful. Yes, having a solid and friendly room mate would make the situation in the house better, but that can indeed come about in the future. Cheer up! Folks are rooting for you! 👍🏼
