It’s really pretty out there. The snow-viewing lantern top knob is quite buried: the whole top is a conical mound of snow. And more is forecast over the next couple of days, with temperatures in the single digits. We’re going to have some shoveling and snow-blowing to do. Maybe we’ll wait to see what falls today, but maybe not: since the snowplow on the arterial crosses our driveway and leaves us quite a berm, we probably had better break through that before any melt freezes—but cold as it is, melt is unlikely. I always hate to disturb the perfect snow with shoveling, but practicality says we will have to clear the driveway and walks.
About half a foot of snow

The Weather Channel says your area of the world is going to be colder than average this winter. Guess this little “snow event” is fair warning.
Just took a fall out there trying to carry in groceries—and it was onto two Walkers’ Shortbread tins and a hinoki cypress. I can be glad it wasn’t the two dozen eggs, but I could have wished it was something softer…
Ow. Really ow.
And I broke a nail. That’s really annoying.
Tripped on something—great pair of snow boots but not good for delicate maneuvering.
OTOH, I still bounce, so no great harm done, even to the cypress, I hope.
Ouch! At least, you didn’t end up like my father. He’s due to get out of rehab on Tuesday morning, will be coming home where he wants to be. He’s refused home health care, so it means he has to do all of his therapy exercises on his own and also has to give himself Lovinox (blood thinner) shots in the abdomen. The needles are about the same size as those used for insulin, but just as painful. Until yesterday morning, he’d never given himself a shot. He has to continue those until December 28.
I have a guitar recital tomorrow afternoon, so I’ll be picking him up at the rehab suite and bringing him in to watch. I’ll have to take him back afterward, since insurance requires it. I’ve got two songs to play, “Nonesuch” and “Greensleeves”. Much different version of “Greensleeves” than I played LAST Christmas concert. Last year’s version was in 4/4 time, this is in 6/8 time. “Nonesuch” is a song written for a “Morris dance”, a form of group dance where the dancers line up in two rows facing each other and perform various steps in unison. It’s not a mirror dance, because when one row moves their right feet, the other row also moves their right feet. There are a series of weaves, as well. I’ll be playing the song much slower than its 2/2 time is designed to be played, since my instructor feels it’ll get me into the right rhythm to play “Greensleeves” properly. This is all fingerstyle on a classical nylon-string guitar, so will be a major boost if I play it correctly all the way through both songs.
Well, because we got snow, and some ice on the walks, he didn’t want to come outside, and I don’t blame him. So he didn’t go to my recital. He was more upset about it than I was, and I wasn’t upset at all. I don’t want him risking a fall especially on an already broken hip.
Only a couple of mistakes when I played, so I don’t feel too badly about that. My teacher said she didn’t notice them, but I did!!!! It’s okay, though, this isn’t a competition, it’s just a recital.
Wise decision. There will be other recitals. Maybe you can order in pizza and play for him…
Glad to hear that your fall didn’t cause any more serious damage than a broken nail. After I slipped on black ice on my sidewalk last winter and cracked a bone in my wrist I plan to be really vigilant this winter.
Sounds like it didn’t do you or the cypress any good. As for the Walker’s Shortbread tins, Ow!
I love Walker’s Shortbread with hot tea. (Earl Grey hot!)
