with a little cooldown Monday, then right back up in the 100’s by next week late.
Tricities gets 109. I am only glad we are not in the Tricities.
We are VERY glad of our patio canopies. It renders broiling into a gentle bake.

Rained all day up here in New Hampshire. Weather is cool and cloudy.
How do the cats feel about the heat?
!We interrupt this broadcast!
It’s years since I last posted, so I suspect this will disappear into the supreme leader’s spamtraps – but I saw this story and decided to say hello again. Rather than just lurking as usual, and not posting due to having forgotten my login.

Obviously as a British person I can’t believe I’m interrupting a vital discussion of the weather, as if any other topic could be more important. But I know that around here, cats have a far higher priority…
My conclusion over the years has been that we don’t really have weather in the UK. Nothing ever really happens compared to anywhere else. No tornadoes, hurricanes, lightning storms, ice storms, typhoons or the like. We don’t normally even get snow, except in the North.
Summer has finally arrived here though, and I’m wearing my shorts to the office. We’ll have heatwave stories on Wednesday, as the temperatures “soar” to nearly 90ºF…
Aw, Sorry to note Tama’s passing—she was quite a cat.
Dunno, Simon, I’ve seen those photos of the waves coming in higher on the Cornish coast—pretty scary!
It’s 83 at 5am…but thank goodness we got the rain instead of dry lightning. It will turn us into a steam bath by afternoon—which is forecast for 96…but that’s eleven degrees cooler than yesterday. It’s just going to be a muggy, hot week, not too unusual for the 4th of July…
Goddess of welcome in new places; hmmmmm….
CJ,
You’re right about the sea. That can still be scary. We do get strong winds – but they rarely do much damage inland, and I confess that I live about as far from the sea as you can be here. Which admittedly is only 90 minute’s drive away (this being a small country).
I remember being in a small boat off Cornwall. We left the protection of the harbour, and I’d just picked the wrong time to go below – as I now couldn’t see this coming. Suddenly the deck was at a nearly 45º – and I’d gone from standing up to lying back on the wall. I was the only passenger able to stand upright after that – I suppose that should have been scary in a small boat, but I only remember enjoying it. Had great fun flying kites later, once the wind had dropped to something more sensible.
But it’s unlikely that the weather will kill you here, unless you ask for it by going to sea, or up a mountain.
I approve of the stationmaster cat being replaced with a junior. It was only after I’d posted it here, that I saw the word stationmaster in a new light, and wondered how much better Pell might have fared with a feline overlord… But then you’ve already done cats in space in a different set of stories. Your version being a little more focused, and less capricious than kitty-kind here on Earth.
I did wonder about getting a cat to wear a hat and medallion though. If I’d tried that trick with my Mum’s – I’d have been scarred for life. Others are more relaxed.
I believe there was a bus-traveling cat in England he(?) and Tama may be enjoying a new friendship, now that they’re wherever it is we wind up in the afterlife.
A feline stationmaster…gotta love that. It looks like she took her duties with serious and dignified regard. — If my cats fuss more, I may need to inform them they’ll need to pull their weight a bit more around here. They are not station mastering….
The Japanese sentiment for Tama: Admirable. And not everyone gets the title, “honorable eternal stationmaster.” Not even persons emeritus.
There are reasons to like the English and the Japanese, two island nations half a world apart, yet curiously similar sometimes. Heheh. Simon, your post certainly highlights that.
It’s hot, danged hot, here, but we’re getting some relief due to rain or at least cloud cover. Still 60% chance of rain past July 4th.
No wonder Tama was well regarded; she was one of the ‘lucky’ tri-color cats!
Ben, watch your mail! 🙂
