This, mind you, is Schuler, not Lowes.
Lowes called us to say there were 3 more packages for us.
So we gathered up the mystery drawer and traded it for the 3 mystery packages…
And indeed it was our two missing doors and the front drawer panel, but—no hinges.
So we call Lowes back—our poor designer/person is pulling her hair out. She will call them the day after Christmas and get our missing hinges.
That should finally do it.
So you were unhinged, as it were. Maniacal laughter.
But everyone have a good holiday season.
Jonathan up in New Hampshire – expecting a ton of snow tomorrow.
It rained down here in the Boston area most of the late night of Christmas Eve, then switched to snow at about 9:00 in the morning… to the accompaniment of thunder and a 10 degree temperature drop! We decided not to head up to my Aunt and Uncle’s for Christmas dinner on the New Hampshire seacoast (Durham) for a variety of reasons including a spouse with a bad head cold and worries on very icy roads locally.
My mother reported, however, about a foot of pure snow (no rain there) in Barrington, NH.
We’ll all get together Saturday, hopefully minus head colds, although I just noticed more snow is forecast.
I hope everyone is having a lovely holiday or everyday, depending on your persuasions!
We had snow and more snow, here on the North Coast. The three Cleveland sisters and Chris spent a lovely afternoon stuffing ourselves with Zabars’ meats and goodies sent by our 4th sister, who is hanging out on the coast. We surprised Chris with a lovely birthday cake along with the other ornaments of the holidays.
We all send you best wishes for all the holidays, hope you stay warm in the best ways, and hope the elves will help us see you all this year!
No, nothing is ever simple — Except my wish for all the salads here:
A Merry Christmas spread thick and shared with all those you love best, and a safe, sane, prosperous New Year full of love and laughter.
Nothing is ever simple — except my wishes for all the salads here:
May you have a Merry Christmas, spread on thick and shared with those you love best, and may you have a safe, sane, and prosperous New Year filled with love and laughter.
Proving yet again that nothing is ever simple! — except my wishes for all the dear salads here:
May you have a Merry Christmas, spread on thick and shared with those you love best, and may you have a safe, sane, and prosperous New Year full of light, love and laughter.
Which proves yet again that nothing is ever simple! — except my best wishes for all the dear salads gathered here.
May you have a Merry Christmas, spread on thick and shared with all those you love best, and may you have a safe, sane, and prosperous New Year filled with light, love and laughter.
*makes mental note to avoid dealing with Schuler for any custom cabinetry*
Mele Kalikimaka e ka Hauoli Makahiki Hou! to all the salads out there! We had wicked Kona storms earlier last week, with flooding across most of Maui and 3 days of blizzard on the Big Island mountains. I wonder if the astronomers and techs on top of Mauna Kea have dug themselves out yet.
Wait! Isn’t that what graduate students are for?
I wish everyone a happy holiday, with family and/or friends and/or furry companions if possible.
We went to my sister for a family dinner, which was both difficult and very good, for dad and for all of us – the first Christmas without mum and the first trip to my sister without her, but both a very different way of celebrating Christmas (it was always at my parents’ house before) and a very warm and cosy family occasion. And dad let me drive both ways, for which I pledged a sigh of relief, as he was very tense this morning (while of course insisting he was fine).
We’re still finding our way in the new circumstances, but I am so very grateful for the family support, including from the teenage grandkids/nephews and both new significant others (one for my sis, and one for my eldest nephew): they too are solidly inducted into the family now, going through all this with us!
Thank you for the holiday wishes, Hanneke (I’ll gratefully accept a sprinkle of good will)! Finding one’s way through such difficult circumstances is never easy. On the other hand, you have a good support system in your family, and you’re already creating somewhat different ways to celebrate the holidays together; those ways recognize and accommodate the inevitable change, but maintain a connection to the past. I wish you well for the next days of Yuletide and a good New Year!
I tried to wish everybody a happy Christmas last night and the website said I was spam. It ate three posts and wouldn’t let me post. Grumble. Bah!Humbug!
Humbugs are a traditional hard boiled sweet available in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. They are usually flavoured with peppermint and striped in two different colours (often black and white).

Oh, peppermints!
The flu is still “kicking butt”. Everytime I get a couple hours that aren’t too bad, it trots out a new trick I’ve never seen before.
This has been a long hard time. Can you get food and meds delivered?
Flu that malingers for this long would make me concerned. I hope your quack is monitoring this.
Got a pantry, using common OTC meds for symptomatic relief (Acetominiphen for fever, headache and muscle stiffness, chloropheniramine for congestion, dextromethorphan for cough, and guaifenesin for mucus, though the FDA doesn’t accept its effectiveness), and I’ve had both kinds of pneumonia vaccines, so I’m not worried about it “settling in to my lungs”. I did get dressed and went out Tuesday, first day I’ve “dressed” since Thursday. I’m still weak and lethargic. I laid down on the couch to rest this afternoon, and woke just before 5! Still have a cough, much more occasional.
Like I said, try hard to avoid it! Try even harder.
Both of our children came home for the holidays. It would have been super except that Sunday I came down with a fever, head, and chest cold with a hacking cough. I’m blaming readyGuy. He had it last. I don’t remember any of Monday. Fortunately, we opened prezzies Sunday evening. I hope I haven’t passed this virus on to readySon and readyDaughter to deliver to California and Virginia tomorrow.
Sounds about right. Fortunately for you, recent studies suggest women have a greater general immunity to flu, i.e. “Man flu” is real, not an excuse. Betrayed by that Y-chromosome again.
best wishes to all—we had a simple and fun at home Christmas, gave each other things we needed, and by our own peculiar custom, we’ll give a second present on New Year’s Eve.
Hugs to each and all of you. Group hug, everybody. A big warm one.
I hope everybody is done being sick this year or if you haven’t been sick yet, you won’t be.
No, I don’t have pneumonia, I have the same old monia I always get this time of year. . . .
