I had pre-ordered Emergence from Kobo a while back and it was ready to download yesterday morning. I got it transferred to my tablet last night, but have only managed to read the first 37 pages due to doctor appointment, paying bills, and other miscellaneous life stuff.
Got mine yesterday noon-ish on my Kindle. Already finished.
Dropped into my Kobo library yesterday morning. I’ve already made two trips through…because nand’ Bren and Cajeiri-aiji.
I completely slacked off at work yesterday and read most of it instead of doing what I was supposed to be doing. (you know, what, my Giant Coporate Employer just got a 14% tax cut from our… charming… president, they can afford to pay me to read for one day) I loved it.
Eeeexcellent. *taps fingertips*
I will, however, be waiting until I can procure my usual signed copy from Our Esteemed Hostess. If nothing else, nand’ Ilisidi is a grand master of the long game and teaches patience.
Ooh, I’d love to get my dad a signed copy for his birthday on March 1st.
Can I go pay for it on Closed Circle?
I ordered another forthcoming book at the same time. It seems that they will be waiting for that to come out before they ship me my copy,
Nice! But this seems to be just for US customers… Do you know when UK folks might be allowed to buy the ebook from Kobo/Google/Amazon ?
Finished already. An excellent addition. Any word on when/if there will be an Audible version? I admit to being quite partial to Daniel Thomas May’s versions of the Foreigner books.
a limited number of signed copies can be had. I have to figure the cost plus postage, and I’m sure I have enough to satisfy those who want them. We’ve not been making a public offering because—kitchen remodel. Among other distractions.
I believe Hanneke should have firsties, because her deadline is closer than mine. For the past 3 years, I’ve been buying the Foreigner series books as Christmas gifts for one of my friends; no rush for next gifting.
I think we have enough for you, Hanneke, one person who wrote to me, and a dozen others.
If there are still some signed copies left, what is the proper process for ordering one?
While listening to a magistrate this morning, it popped into my head that you had a book coming out in January. (Yes, I always pay attention. It may not be to the things I’m supposed to be paying attention to…) I got home and ordered!
First book read in 2018 was a reread of Convergence to refresh my memory of where we’re at. Book is ordered, and Amazon has supposedly shipped. A la kid in the back seat on a trip asking every five minutes “are we there yet?” I am barely restraining myself from heading to the door every five minutes saying, “Is it here yet?”
If you’re in the short story mood, or have an idle moment (insert snort of ironic laughter here) I would really like to know more of Irene’s later life. A “passing of the torch thing,” maybe?
Happy New Year and Happy New Book!
For Paul:
Computers are like Old Testament gods; lots of rules and no mercy. –Joseph Campbell
Current news to the contrary notwithstanding, they are unlike in not being quixotic. The “no mercy” is BECAUSE they are fundamentally entirely predictable.
These “Spectre” and “Meltdown” bugs are because the chip designers put performance first.
Hi – Not shipped to me. I have a problem with the rather significant price increase for the ePub. I understand that Ms. Cherryh has little or no input as to the price set by the publisher.
If I can be certain that Ms. Cherryh will receive a comparative increase in her royalties then I might reconsider my decision.
I have purchased and read and reread her books for some thirty or fourthty years and have enjoyed and appreciated most of them. Now, at the ripe old age of 72 I have to conserve my resources.

Amazon predicts my copy of Emergence arriving January 12th. This is in Germany (Europe, Planet Earth).
I buy the paper books. Especially if the E-Books are above $5 (5€). I won’t spend much more than that on any E-Book with DRM. Ever. If I really want to read the book and the E-Book is more than $8 or the like, I will buy in paper, either new or a couple months later as used. That’s my take on DRM. DRM says the publisher doesn’t trust me with his products. Well, nor do I with the publisher then.
Now how have I arrived at a rant against DRM? Let’s enjoy the new book!
Happy New Year
Ektus.
Just finished and enjoyed it very much. Any chance of part of the future story coming from Irene’s point of view?
I am glad you like Irene. I’ve become rather fond of her.
Got my copy today. Looking forward to having nothing at all to do tomorrow but snuggle down with a carafe of spiced Chai latte, a lap robe and binge-read that sucker from cover to cover. Bliss!
