Foreigner Series: Spoiler Alerts: Page 2

I’m giving the page a second section because page 1 was starting to behave oddly.

As always, wait at least 30 days from issue of the book before starting to discuss. And give our overseas friends some extra leeway: the distribution system doesn’t reach everywhere as fast!

Thank you! The follower is done, and I’ll be turning it in!

That’s wonderful – can’t wait. My family are amused that I drop everything domestic to read a book- philistines the lot of them. There was one place where I laughed out loud – Algini has become a favourite of mine in the last 4 or 5 books- dry sense of humour.

Argh! I’m still waiting for my eBook of Protector! But I’m delighted that Peacemaker is done! 😀

  4. Hanneke

Protector as ebook is now available for pre-order on Kobo, and according to them it’ll be released on April 2nd. Just one more week to wait!
Books 8 and 9, Pretender and Deliverer, are now also available as ebooks on Kobo. Only books 2 – 7 to go, with the digitizing (is that the correct word?). It’s progressing steadily!

Not available as e books in the Uk as far as I can see, which is a pain- I always buy the hardback and would continue to do so, but it would be nice to have my favourites as e books for train journeys, waiting rooms, holidays etc.

I’ve been re-listening to Intruder in high anticipation of the release of Protector in just a few hours! Squee! I have both audio and ebook preordered!

OK, finished Protector last night and need Peacemaker now! LOL, just kidding (sort of) but I LOVED it! Do you plan a finale for this series at some point? I can just see it going on and on…

LOVED Protector! OMGosh! I’m turning into a serious Atevi fangirl here. Loved everything about it, great visuals, everything everything. Won’t go into any spoilers. When can we discuss the book? Is it a 30 day wait?

Although I tried very very hard to read the book slowly and savor EVERY page, I still finished it in less than one day. All that waiting, and poof! gobbled up like one’s favorite chocolate – too fast! *sigh* I have no willpower when it comes to this world and the many delightful twists and turns of daily life with Bren Cameron.

We can’t get a kindle version of Protector in New Zealand for some reason. Love the rest of the series… I kind of want Jago and Bren to get a more serious relationship. Does that happen in protector? 🙂

    • nekokami

They’ve been like an old married couple since Precursor. How much more serious do you think they can get?

      • JelliBelliBiz

I think you just perfectly described their relationship 😛

Just finished today and really liked it. CJ, you write like the atevi play chess; a slow, uneventful early game and then once the pieces are in place all hell breaks loose. Several characters really go through some changes in this one – changes that I like alot. ok no spoilers I hope.

Thank you, CJ! I couldn’t put it down until I had read it all. I’m so pleased. 🙂

    How long are we gagged?

  12. Isharell

Loved it loved it loved it!!! And there was one moment especially, which made me cry out in delight! I’ve been hugging myself with happiness every time I think of it. (I’ve been wracking my brain how to comment on my *squee* moment, without causing spoilage – I believe this is vague enough) :).

Finished it within two days of receipt, now on the second reading. 😀

A question. In Destroyer, Irene is described as Artur’s sister, and in Deliverer, Cajeiri describes her skin very dark. I suppose she could be Artur’s half-sister, but in Protector at one point she is described as “pale.” I rather liked the idea of some ethnic diversity among the Reunioners, even though the ship and station folk don’t seem to think of ethnicity in that way. (Not clear whether Mospheirans do…) Anyway, at this point, how should we be picturing Irene?

    • Limari

Thank you nekokami! I had pictured Irene as dark-skinned, although I could not remember exactly why I was thinking this was so. I was pleased to see the diversity of the human ship represented in Cajeiri’s circle of human associates.(Eek gadh, I almost wrote “friends” there!) In Protector, when Irene turns out (on the cover even!) to be very pale, I was wondering why in the world I had imagined her otherwise.

I suppose, at this very late date, it would unconscionable to ask that she be returned to her dark-skinned origins in second edition? In my mind’s eye, however, she (and her mother) will remain so…

  14. chesty

I also thought Irene was exotically dark. There was only a line or two, something about her eyes, and something going on behind them, but I don’t have my collection with me. Was it just her eyes that were dark?

  15. chesty

I forgot to say that if she is darker than most humans, she might still seem pale to Cajeiri. 🙂

  16. acarlberg

Deliverer, s 142: “Arthurs face, narrow-nosed and with a chipped front tooth – Irenes, dark as an ateva, but brown, and eyes darker than her face, scarlily dark, full of thoughts”
(Cajeiri thinking about the ship and his associates there)

My copy of Protector is “in the mail”–arggh! Maybe it will come today.

Hey, when we refer to previous volumes, can we let one another know if we are referring to a hard copy or a paperback?

  18. acarlberg

Absolutly, a good sugggestion! Sorry I didn´t think about that… My Deliverer is hard cover (no way I can wait for a Foreignerbook in paperback)got Protector 2 days ago, read it, loved it!

  19. CJ

Thanks for that catch. I can’t believe I did that. Irene was originally a black kid and just transmogrified. I’ve asked Betsy to fix it, but I can’t do more than that now. Sorry, guys. The c/e doesn’t catch that sort of thing, and it’s been so long—I didn’t realize I’d ever described them.

Got a question for you: is Bjorn ever described?
