Reading. Simple as it sounds, reading the week’s progress to each other.
It’s a case of…when you know there’s a deadline…
Funny thing. You work.

It’s a case of…when you know there’s a deadline…
Funny thing. You work.
I thought you did that as a matter of course…especially while one is driving, the other is listening…..
erp! I meant, “The other is READING!”
I am told there are times when it’s best to listen…and other times when it’s best not to have heard it all; when it’s best to overlook what one has heard, so to speak; to edit out the awkwardly unintentional bits, so as to achieve a more harmonious, um…yeah, that!
Lol—but we haven’t done it weekly, when we’re not on the road. This way we have many little deadlines. And a chance to discuss it bit at a time.
Happy Thanksgiving, Everybody!
Ahhh, yes, but will this avatar survive tomorrow? Perhaps he should remove his disguise?
We read to each other daily, which seems to work for us. But then, we’re co-authors, so it’s important we keep abreast of each other’s writing.
Happy Thanksgiving, All!
I got out what I thought was the roast I’d bought, since that was what I wanted for Thanksgiving. (Just the cats and myself, no need to fix a lot.)
Only…I didn’t get out the roast. …It’s flank steak or some such, packaged so it looks like more than it is (it was curled up).
Well, so I fixed it, since I’d thawed it. Tomorrow, I’ll fix veggies and such to go along with it. (OK, OK, there’s a pumpkin pie to fix too, and I think (hope) I have cranberry sauce on hand. No cranberries when I went to the store last.)
Ah, well, the beef was pretty good, just not quite what I’d planned. LOL, but this means I will likely fix that roast for Christmas. It’s still in the freezer.
Anyway, I have good food and the cats are good company. … I am telling my more woebegone side to… begone, already and let me enjoy the holiday in peace.
One does not expect Mr. Right to magically arrive on one’s doorstep, which seems to be part of what the more woebegone side is in the mood to complain (whine) about. Telling that side to calm down, already, and as I said, to enjoy the holiday in peace.
Hah, the cats are getting extra attention and food. They are quite happy with the whole thing. … I should take lessons!
Happy Thanksgiving, All!
In case I don’t get on site tomorrow, a very happy Thanksgiving to all! I have to swing by the library tomorrow and make sure Junior, the Library Cat, gets some semblance of a Thanksgiving feast (a whole can of turkey & giblets Fancy Feast, likely). I’m also usurping the floor of the children’s area to pin together my quilt; no place in my house has a large enough unobstructed run of flat surface. Company won’t be here until late afternoon, so I can putter about until 11 or 12. Having the quilt out of the house is a good idea also because the designated recipients are coming over for the feasting. They are bringing by their kitten to see how she and Zorro get along; I expect we may be asked to cat-sit when they go on their honeymoon, if the signs are felicitous.
frequent deadlines/goals for “a little progress” are a very effective way to move work along without so much pressure that you lock up
and Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels to everyone !
Indeed, happy Thanksgiving from Jane and me and Shu and Sei!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We eat a late lunch Thanksgiving dinner, so we’re stuffed and the kitchen is cleaned up. Nothing left to do but after-dinner relaxation.
Gee, it feels so strange to not be in disguise! 😯
Hey, the penguin’s not wearing anything!
And yet, he’s still wearing a tuxedo, fully and elegantly dressed. Droll yet dapper, even when disrobed.
The penguin’s paradoxical, but quite welcome. The world would be less without the hardy bird.
I, however, prefer where the climate is warmer!
Happy Thanksgiving, All!
Penguins live in warm climates on the southern African coast as well. In fact you can even swim with them at a beach a few miles from where I stay in Cape Town.
The main beach where thousands of penguins nest is off-limits, and you can only watch the them from a walkway. But they are wild birds and also visit adjacent beaches where people are swimming. They’re quite tame, but touching them is not allowed, because they have very sharp beaks and they’ll defend themselves if they feel threatened.
Here’s a video I found on YouTube, made by a Portuguese tourist, of travelling to Boulders Beach by train and swimming with penguins.

“Spheniscus mendiculus is a penguin endemic to the Galapagos Islands. It is the only penguin that lives north of the equator in the wild.”
(Wikipedia – Galapagos Penguin)
The story goes, a penguin became the mascot for Linux after one bit Linus Torvalds and he expressed some antipathy.
There are also the Fairy Penguin Eudyptula minor that nests along the southern coast of Australia. They’re the smallest of the penguins.
Happy post turkey day, all! Our power was out, so our t-day feast consisted of chopped up hot dogs and eggs fried on the woodstove. Ah well. Still have x-mas to look forward to.
A nice little movie about exploring the solar system

From penguins to sharks. There’s an excellent article by an Australian journalist in the New York Times today:
The Great White Shark’s Image Problem
“The curious thing about sharks is that the people who have the most to fear from them — surfers, swimmers, paddlers — fear them least.”
