The replacement cabinet is here, the doors for the other one are here, and probably the drawer front. We got the Lowes guys to take the old one out and bring the new one in, and it’s 1/16 inch larger than the other, but we don’t think this (being a body measure, not frontage) is not going to be significant. We’re not strong enough to tip it safely to get the shipping restraints off the bottom: that has to wait for Scott. And getting it in place means we can keep our slot for countertop installation. Yay!
Our cabinet arrived….

BTW, the shrimp chips I bought recently are Calbees brand and they are somewhat like shrimp-flavored Cheetos. They’re wheat-based, in case that’s a problem for anyone. These are not the hard poker chip-like things I’d mentioned in the prior thread, but once I have a small deep fryer, I’ll likely try those again, in the spirit of culinary and gastronomic adventure. Heh.
After a day of sun and warmth, it has turned rainy and chilly again. I haven’t checked the weather to see how low it’s supposed to get, but so far, the heater hasn’t kicked back on again.
I spent most of yesterday writing, and…it was mostly good, though I now see that what I wrote after supper veered out of the feel of the world and characters somewhat, so it’ll need to be rewritten there. What I wrote is in a new story-world, and in some ways, I know what I’ve got, while in others, it’s still shaping itself, so I expect this is a rough draft so far. But I was encouraged, because it was going better in terms of story and characters and world building than I’ve had for a while. And that’s all I’ll say, because I don’t want CJC to feel antsy about whether I’d say anything spoilery story-specific. This is still an early draft, the world-building and characters are still shaping up, and my usual problem of starting with some characters and a few scenes / ideas, but without a full story plot yet, is still to be resolved. But hey, I was very happy to get what I got, and it poured out on the page; er, screen, that is. 🙂
Some good news: The developers finally have the next version of their successor font-editor program (FontLab Studio IV) ready for upgrade purchase, and I got the email for an offer to upgrade from Fontographer, earlier in the week. I do not yet know if it will import all the stuff (foreground and background outlines, any background bitmaps for tracing, guidelines, etc.) from the old Fontographer .fog file format. I’ll need to look at that and at Fontographer’s export to the newer file format, to see, but I expect to have to keep the old files around and “manually” import/copy things between the two programs, to ensure I don’t lose important construction and tracing data. — But I expect to take the plunge and do the upgrade. I am very thankful I can afford to take the plunge. I need to be able to move forward and use new editor / drawing features. — So I am expecting to have some grumbles about the upgrade process, but overall, this is a necessary thing and should help me, after some growing pains.
Not the truth, but a story:
I dreamed the Angel stood before me offering me my choice. I could have eternal youth and health or entire knowledge. “Those are both wonderful gifts,” I said, “but could I have some wisdom and a very large bottle of ‘Bite my Tongue’ instead?”.
The Angel shook its head sadly. “We couldn’t even get that for The Boy. He had to try to make do with kindness and practice”.
Love it.
