I do hope you have Shejicon next year because I’ve wanted to go for years, and I’m bound and determined. I want to see your lovely garden first hand and experience the whole gestalt — I want to get the context that these pretty pictures fit into. I know how it will happen, and I’ve decided that it will happen one way or the other.
I have volunteered to act as assistant ShejiCon facilitator in 2018. All I need is a go-ahead from CJ and Jane (after all it’s their home, their fandom, and they know their schedule better than I).
I promise that if we hold it next year, I am not driving across country….I’ll take my chances with the friendly skies that are ready when you are, and hopefully not find myself given a parachute and a friendly kick out the door at 30,000 feet over North Dakota.
Quite Off-Topic: Fleas! Aarrgh! Spray and Wipes Ordered. Eegad! (There isn’t that much grass around the complex, and I’m pretty sure we didn’t arrive carrying the wretched things. Aarrgh! And I should’ve figured it out when the cats started scratching. Luckily, only two carpeted bedrooms, the rest is bare flooring. So, the carpets to treat and bedding to treat and wash. Eeeee…. Well, and the cats, of course. Poor guys, they are *not* happy. Me neither. Eek. Ugh.
On-Topic: Man, I wish I could tell more about the koi pics. They’re beautiful, what I can see, though. — Liking that there’s a Wesley and an Ichigo now. Heheh. (Cough. My own tastes kinda run toward Hanataro and Shiro. And my initial reactions to Hanataro really surprised me. LOL. Apparently, if he were real, I’d have had a crush going…. Exactly why, I’m not sure. )
The pics of the trees in the previous post are great. — There’s just enough landscaping for this apt. complex that there are birds around, including at around 5:30 before dawn. Heh. But that is fine. I would prefer something more natural and woodsy. Too much concrete, steel, glass, and petroleum…bleh. Water, wood, plants, stones, earth, sky, birds and critters, much better. — And the garden area y’all have is just super, tranquil and gorgeous.
Are you one of the people who the fleas would enjoy feasting on as much as the cats? I am; the first indicator that the cats have fleas is usually when I start getting bit all over my ankles. Fleas suck (literally!)
Fortunately, I live in a desert area that has practically no fleas. My cats are very happy about that. When I was a kid and we moved from one house to another, we went back to the vacant place to check things over one last time, and the homeless fleas were ecstatic to find that I was a perfect host. I never want to go through that one again. Ugh.
Ask your veterinarian for some “Knockout”, then spray liberally all around your apartment, and in the cats’ “furniture”. Don’t spray on them directly, or in their litterboxes, but do get it in the cracks and corners of the walls and floor, under this and that…..
I once lived in a basement suite with long shag carpet. One of the other tenants moved a mama cat and 4 kittens into the vestibule outside my door, claiming they were too young to be flea-sprayed. [This is nuts as fleas can take enough blood to actually kill a kitten]. Anyhow the fleas migrated into my shag carpet and resisted all attempts to vacuum, poison etc. As the sort of moist, plushy carbon dioxide producer fleas love, I survived with a cat flea collar around each ankle.
BTW, I’m in (and from) Houston. — I didn’t notice the fleas fast enough, and the cats are having a rough time of it. Not epic (yet) but not cool. If we get anything, they usually like me about as much as the cats. But then, I love my cats and my cats love me, so it’s as much me as the cats, as far as the rotten little insects are concerned. — I’ve never had a guide dog, but I did grow up with a sweet mama dog. Heck, I’m good with just about any mammal, and they nearly always like me. This suits me fine, too. — I don’t know if my two cats would be cool with a seeing eye dog, but if I needed to get a dog, my cats would have to adjust. I think they might be OK with that. Hope so.
Hmm, is it likely there’ll be a Stephen along with Wesley? Or others to go with the Bleach koi? 😉 (Still liking Tommie’s suggestion of Boji for the escape artist fish.)
I knew folks that had guide dogs and cats, though most of the time, the cats were introduced as kittens. One time, I observed a two-month-old kitten chasing a guide dog down the hall. They were best buds.
Nuts. I ordered extra on the flea spray to be sure I’d have enough to do both bedrooms (carpets). But the current ETA is around a week and a half to two weeks. So I’m going to have to make a local trip to the pet store. I don’t think we wanna wait that long!
That was a nice review. It’s just as well that the comment area didn’t play nice with my screen-reader, because I didn’t want to get into the “what constitutes a space opera” discussion that seemed to be getting started. I was going to post there that I think of Foreigner as a space chamber-music piece rather than a space opera.
Dear little fishies, pets are most important. my 11 yrold dog had huge liver problems last year, had to be euthanised, I am just preparing to take on a dog adoption, she’s from the south of spain, so it’s a big trip to the UK – for about 10 dogs – by van. lots of paperwork, and I hope she can adjust to a home life quickly – a spanish galgo, turned out and left on the street as hundreds are. from street life to the sweet life.
am re-reading Regenesis, glad you will have Maddy and Ari2 🙂
So sorry for the loss of a dear companion, and high hopes for happy puppies—quite a trip to a better life. May they be spoiled as much as is good for them.
After being in a breeder’s tank, then pet store, then in transit, those fish probably think they are in some ancestral nirvana. Let’s hope their self-preservation instincts are strong.
Ari II – is that the second fish named Ari or the second Ari on Cyteen?
Good luck with the fish.
Jonathan
Good question. We’ll see how her personality unfolds. 😉

And fishes!!

Jane and I will have to sit down and talk.

Ichigo is absolutely gorgeous! May he live long and prosper!
nice fish

@Teresa, What part of the desert do you inhabit? ReadGuy and I live in SE Arizona near border with Mexico.
Henderson, NV, near Las Vegas. It’s becoming very warm here now; getting toward my favorite weather. I’m a solar-powered lizard.

Yes, indeed, I vote for the Boji fishy, too.

See my comment above…..ask for “Knockout” at your vet’s….it’s a bit pricey but it WORKS!!!! It prevents the fleas from reproducing.
BTW, and off topic, but the Foreigner books have been getting some nice shout-outs on the Tor.com website.

Beautiful fishies! So glad to see the pond stocked again
