The follow-up to the last colonoscopy (3 in the last 365 days, not to mention abdominal surgery) reports the latest biopsy is clear. No problem. Jane and I are, yes, happy! I’ve been so often in that clinic this year I’m about to demand a brass plaque. Not to mention the lingering effects of chemo. But I am clear. Officially, no call-back until next year.
Tested clean.

Great news! I’m due for my three year follow-up in March…
Oh, wahoo!!!! Congratulations and here’s to a happier, healthier and cancer (therefore, chemo)-free New Year to you and Jane!
Lovely! May 2021 be a superior year in all respects for you and Jane!
Great big virtual high five, lady! Welcome to the remission club!
Saw my oncologist Thurs. He said lab tests are beautiful, see you in six months. Vitamin D and Vitamin B complex helps with chemo brain.
Delighted to hear your news too, WOL!
Congratulations on your clean biopsy! It was 3 years ago this month I finished the chemo part of my breast cancer treatment; the effects can linger, but they get better over time. Hope you two have a much better new year!
I hit three years next year – it will be two in March. But remission for 3 years in June. (6 sessions of chemo before surgery, 11 after, three weeks apart.) Quarterly bloodwork next week.
Hurray!
I got told that my next follow-up with the radiation guy will be next December, a year, instead of the six months that I’ve been doing. (It’s more than two years since that part of the treatment.)
Yes, good news.
Great News.
Wonderful news! Wishing you and Jane all the best.
Very good news!
I hope everyone will have a better year in 2021.
I got a letter 2 days ago from BCS — he has received a lot of the supplies we sent (Hanneke — the toilet paper was especially welcome 😀 ). The cats are very happy to get cat food. He has been trying to ask for help from relatives in the area as well as government assistance, but so far he has not had any response. The only local person who has been helping is his landlord(!) which says a lot about the state of affairs if you are down and out. Still working on the spread sheet, what’s been delivered, what is pending.
I have created a check sheet in GoogleDocs for everyone who is contributing to the ‘BCS Upkeep Fund’ 😀 I believe I have added everyone’s address and made it accessible so people can note what they have sent and when so we don’t overlap badly; you should receive a notice in your e-mail. If I’ve flubbed it somehow, or if you have an idea how to make it work better, please let me know so I can try to fix it.
I’m going to add nonessentials like ice cream, pastries, or candy at the bottom if someone feels like sending a treat 🙂
Did that.
How are people chipping in? I looked back at the Amazon link in the prior thread and it looks like it’s been moved on from. I’m not able to go to a grocery store or post office, but can add in a bit of money.
Sweetbo, how kind of you!
And here I was worrying a bit about how you were managing, as I do when nice people fall silent, knowing the situation in the US and elsewhere is difficult.
We’re coördinating by email at the moment. If you email me I can connect you to Chondrite, who has set up a Google Docs listing of what’s needed, and what has already been sent.
I think for this month he’s fairly well provided, only some powdered milk and some flea stuff for the cats would be useful I think.
I’m putting my interrupted address here; if you take out all the spaces and dashes and put in the correct sign you can mail me, and I’ll just have to hope the bots can’t do the same h.nieuw— en —huijzen at sign heer- hugo –waard. nl
If you search for the combined name after the sign you should get my town in North Holland, just so you know you’ve got it right.
I’ve been managing by getting stress rashes and not sleeping well for over a week. So not great, but probably appropriate for the state of things.
I sent you an email. Address starts with “hime”. Third time was a charm I hope.
Funny thing, I used to live near South Holland… Illinois.
It says rather more about the State of Texas, I think. It is rather renowned for, errm, supporting personal freedom & responsibility. For example, I understand local zoning ordinances are virtually non-existent.
That’s true in the city of Houston, but not state-wide. And the area has many incorporated cities that do have zoning. Also neighborhoods come up with deed restrictions which limit what property owners can do with their property to supposedly keep the property values up. I lived there for 15 years, but when I bought a house I made sure it was in Harris County outside of the city limits.
A plaque might be nice, but an annual clean test party would be nicer. Cupcakes for all!
Screw “clean test”, of the Covid kind at least. The Governor finally changed course to allow over-65’s in 10 days. I’m going!
So good to hear, and a great start for 2021.
Hip hip hooray, and happy dance! Here’s to no lingering effects, and many happy years of doing what you love most!
So good to hear.
Great news
Thank you everyone who is making notes on the BCS spreadsheet and cleaning up my rough draft! Right now, as long as BCS doesn’t lose power, I think he has enough supplies for at least a month, perhaps longer. I sent him a letter snail mail telling him that the salads were pulling together for him and to expect supply packages for at least a bit.
Glad the news was good. That has to be peace of mind while the body continues to be on the mend. Hoping you feel marked improvements as the weeks goes on and can unlock more things you enjoy doing.
I’m still holed up in my house. I said this before, but I’m beginning to think I’d be a terrible candidate for a Mars mission. I really thought I was an introvert who liked being a homebody. I think I can put that to rest for good. Still, as long as they keep making books and TV I’m not going to go completely nuts. I’ve been enjoying the new season of The Expanse, watched Ted Lasso (cough) times, What We Do in the Shadows on FX, Perry Mason on HBO, Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Queen’s Gambit. They didn’t have all that in 1918 so I shouldn’t complain.
Hi Sweetbo, good to hear that you’re still keeping safe.
Have you tried The hands of the Emperor, by Victoria Goddard, yet?
It’s a nice fat book, in which nothing really terrible happens, but it’s a page-turner nevertheless.
It’s rare that I am so grabbed by a new book that I really want to push it into the hands of all the people I think might enjoy it, but this one has that effect on me. I mentioned it before in the last post, but as it may have got lost there amid the stresses of the last weeks, I put it in here just this once more.
I think a lot of people who enjoy the Foreigner series may enjoy this one too.
I’ll add it to my list! My area went into stricter lockdown which means libraries have returned to curbside pickup only which actually works to my favor.
Currently I’m starting in on the 5th Kopp Sister’s book. It starts with Girl Waits with Gun which was based on building a story around some interesting real newspaper clippings about an event of the same name back in 1914 and goes on to follow one of the first female sheriff’s deputy. I originally bought them for my mom as a “mom safe” book, but started reading them myself. Now I’m COUGH books into it.
She’s working on another novel, “At the Feet of the Sun”, but I don’t know when it will be out. It’s another with Kip.
I loved Hands, and have since read everything else of hers, in particular the Stargazy Pie series, and can enthusiastically recommend them. Comment
Just ordered The Hands of the Emperor. Now I’m going to disappear for a while. . . .
Hanneke, Thank you for watching out for BCS. I’ve sent a short email to you. Let me know if it gets lost crossing the Atlantic.
