I know. 😉
Today’s question: what’s the largest crater on the moon, and how big is it?

The South Pole-Aiken basin, 2,240 km across and 13 deep, is the largest impact crater in the solar system.
Hmm…I looked at the Moon on Google Earth and couldn’t find the label for anything at the South Pole…..
It’s not visible from Earth. It’s on the far side of the moon.
But Google Earth Pro does allow you to “orbit” the moon and see the features on the opposite side….I’ll take a look again……
I did find an Aitken, it’s located at 16degrees, 48 minutes south, 173degrees, 24 minutes east….that’s nowhere near the South Pole. I’ve looked all around the South Pole…I’ve found Clavius, Newton, Schroedinger, but no Aiken…..and Google Earth’s search give no results for Aiken. It does give results for Aitken…..so, nope, didn’t find it…..gone to 0,0, then 90 degrees S, and still nothing. Largest crater I could find was Tycho…..well, no big deal…..
It’s ancient, even relative to other craters, repeatedly cratered. If you Google the name Ait(yes, with a t)ken, you will find it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aitken_(crater)
HRHSpence’s reply threw me off, because he said South Pole, so that’s where I went looking, but it’s located where I posted earlier.
You got it!
I should start listing the things I have to look up in the course of a day. Some of them are really odd.
Yeah, sorry. I left the t out.
So did I, when I read it. 😉
