In a bit of mental attic rearranging as I prepare to enter the Alliance-Union universe for a new book—I decided—why not do a piece for Closed Circle that encapsulates the history behind it. It’s a short story, but sort of a fictional history sort of story that some of you may like, that will at present planning not be part of the book, just a stand-alone bridge from us to there.
Working on a short piece right now…an Alliance-Union history.

Good news! I’ve always liked the Alliance-Union universe.
Oh, but I had I enough energy to dance, I would peel myself off the arm of this chair and – thud.
Neber Mind. The sentiment remains!
sounds great! Can you share any hints on the book ?
Wonderful! Now we can lookforward to the short and a novel, both for Alliance-Union.
I may be the only person here who’d *really* like to know what happens next in Ari Emory’s universe…so many tantalizing threads were left open at the end of Regenesis, and there’s still the question underlying the whole series: how can a culture spread over vast, vast distances (in space and time) and still stay “unified” (so to speak)? Or even be able to communicate with itself? –AE1’s experimental answer, the “worm(s)” in azi mindsets, may work, or may explode/self-destruct…that’s AE2’s nightmare responsibility.
–Now that I think about it, Bren’s universe asks the same question, more or less–and explores a very different set of possible answers: i.e., the cultures *don’t* stay in touch, and *can’t* readily communicate (even among the same species, much less the extra variable of totally alien cultures); real communication requires effort, stretching beyond one’s mental/emotional/physical boundaries, and finding *or creating* common ground.
Pardon my rambling…returning to my original point, of all the A-U storyline threads, the one I’d most like to dig into again is the one that (to me) is really the “inside-out” of Foreigner–the continuation of AE2’s life, her choices, and their consequences.
I’ve been rereading the Alliance-Union books so this is great news.
Levannah10, you are not alone! Many here (and elsewhere) are eager to hear more about the Alliance-Union: universe:)
This is very exciting……
“some of you may like”….oh, that’s rich. I’ve been waiting for years for more A/U.
Looking forward to both of them!
Yes! Great news about the book. While I too would love to see more of AE, I’m more interested in Capella, her new drop-point and the Mazianni. We haven’t seen a lot from their POV, after all. 😉
I am so excited about this!
Oh Yay. Only thing that could possibly make me happier would be more of Chanur.
There’s so much in the chanur series. I’d love to know what all those hani, mahen, stsho, kif, knnn, t’ca, chi, and the humans have been up to. You just know something else is going to happen.
I am eager to read it. I look forward to the novel that follows after it.
About time. 🙂 I’m ready for more on the A-U universe too.
Woot! Woot!
After bouncing with happiness, I can finally sit down as say “woot!”
Jane and I have frequently worked together over the years. This time both our names will be on the cover. We have the contract. And we want to make it worth the wait.
The history short piece is finished. Jane will go over it and we will get it prepped for closed-circle.net.
OOOOoooooooOOOooooh
I am so excited!
