Mama says never to stop anyone who is doing the right thing. Please, don’t let us stop you!
Wax on. Wax off.
It is an enormous asset to have another writer in the house. Jane is saving my sanity.
I may have to rewatch the original Karate Kid now. 🙂
Learning to write keeps teaching me how really skilled are the writers whose work I like so much.
My “learning to write” process is still wandering around, but I think I’ve progressed past a couple of points, so I might actually be learning something, not just spilling out words on the screen. 🙂
Besides that, I’ve been at it enough to see I really do want to write, there’s something there, the urge to write, to tell stories, to say something about life and people. I can tell when something strikes me as good, but my editing side tends to be too self-critical too. I get the feeling I’m just an odd duck about this process, playing catch-up with fiction writing, learning by wandering through it, and that it’s leading somewhere, despite the wandering nature.
On the plus side, a lot more of the main story-universe I’ve had in mind becomes more and more clear, each time I write anything there.
I think I might be nearer to another rise past the current plateau. Sure hope so.
I may have to make myself stop and outline something, plan out before jumping in and writing. I’ve tried both and seem to go more toward jumping right in and writing. But I’m not getting at completed plots and stories well enough this way. So a purposeful change of habit may be in order.
I have been putting out several pages each time, but much of it is not likely to make it out of my hard drive or file drawer. (Real life or personal issues keep colliding too often with the fiction, or in some cases, I’m not sure yet if I’d be comfortable with others reading some things that have come up in writing. But mostly, it’s just incomplete chunks, not yet finished, complete ideas, or too rough, uneven.
Some people, pros and amateurs, make it look so easy. I haven’t yet found the key to unlock whatever I need to unlock to get me writing full stories.
CJ, I’m always happy to know you’re writing something new. Though my To Read Stacks, real and virtual, are more like precarious piles these days. Heh. That doesn’t matter. I’ll always love books. The idea of having plenty still to read is just fine.
I really liked the short story anthology, Visible Light, and need to read the Collected Short Stories.
I like short story collections a lot, as much as I like full novels. I think more shorts would be a fine idea, but I fully understand you may be more geared constitutionally toward long-form stories.
In any case, I like Tommie’s Mama’s advice not to mess with someone who’s doing right, something good.
Carry on! 😀

The Fourth is always with me. I would’ve been born on the Eve of D-Day! But the weather in the Channel was bad–Ike could wait for a day, Mom couldn’t. So I can say Hitler still “owned” Europe when I was born, but not for long!
Love it!
A couple of my recent posts were Zennish, including one in a different thread that went into the maw of the spam filter for using the “blockquote” HTML tag, which brings to mind the jedi philosopher Yoda.
Now extricated. I swear that program has never caught anything but members’ posts!
Thank you.
Paul, I like this month’s Tux incarnation.
Speak in Yoda’s word order I will not.
Lol!
Teddy bear or Ewok, Ewok or teddy bear? — For future Tux penguins in disguise, when the penguin Jedi master needs a break from lightsaber practice.
But if I were to don the Ewok robes, how would you know it was me? Possibly a Wookie, let my feathers grow and don the sash? I might be able to do that. But next month we have the 4th of July, so I’m thinking Captain America!
How about the Penguin of Liberty?
I hope all the cat people saw Tuesday’s (6/2) Garfield cartoon. 🙂
We’ll never know……and that’s the way they like it!
